Ceremonial mask, used on occasion of the propitiatory dances performed before sowing time in order to bless and protect the young rice plants and ensure a good growing season culminating in a rich harvest and prosperity for the community. This item represents the face of a wild boar.
This type of masks have been widely documented and published. A mask representing the same character is published in Hornbill and Dragon (p. 212). Unlike other masks, the boar’s face is fitted with an articulated jaw allowing it to move.
